¥ In addition to your plant listings, you receive a stunning, half-page color display ad highlighting your photo of your feature cultivar. This high-quality color advertisement for your nursery includes professional layout and design at no additional cost. You provide the cultivar photograph and we create your beautiful ad. If you do not have a great photo for your feature cultivar, we'll provide one. You would suggest 6-12 plants for which you have large stocks and we will look through our photo archive and find the best image for your display ad. You will get to proof the ad and see what it looks like prior to publication. You are encouraged to send up to 24 to 48 images along with your application from which we may choose the best for your display plus we may feature your photography other places in the Guide. Note: "Complete-500" advertising nurseries do NOT submit any additional photo submission fee.

Frequently Asked Questions
about Advertising your Nursery in a Eureka Reference Guide
Q. ÒI don't have a computer. How can I send you my listings to be uploaded?Ó
A. Several nurseries who'd rather spend all their time in the garden and haven't yet taken on a computer find a friend who will prepare their list of cultivars or hire someone to place their plant names, sales codes and prices in a simple word processing file. Our instructions are an easy "1, 2, 3" to someone with very little experience in word processing and emailing.
Q. ÒMay I send in digital photos for my ad layout? They are beautiful.Ó
A. While digital photos look great on our computer screens, they are often too low in resolution to print well on a four-color, high-resolution press. A way to tell if your digital photo would work is just look at the size in terms of disk space. Most of our digital photography goes to press at 8 to 10 megabytes for each photo. Send your digital photos on a CD along with labeled proof sheets and a log of all the photos submitted. Each file must be identified by cultivar name both in the file name, on the proof sheet and the photo log sheet. We do NOT return digital submissions. We do not accept photos which have been used in previous Eureka Reference Guides.
Q. ÒHow can I check to see if my cultivars are spelled correctly so that they will be in the new Eureka Reference Guide?Ó
A. It is critical that your cultivars are submitted to us spelled the exact way that they are registered by the society. You may now go to the following pages on our Eureka Web Site and look in the Daylily Spelling Dictionary to check your spellings or even copy and paste from there into your own electronic file of plant listings:

Q. ÒI already have a Webpage so why would I want my advertisement and listings to be on the Eureka Gardening Collection Site?Ó

This is THE most cost effective way for a nursery to TARGET MARKET to the perennial collector year after year. You become a national mail-order presence as part of the Eureka family. Most people share their Eureka with at least 10 other gardeners each season. Plus, you will be reaching NEW collectors around the world. The Complete 500 option is extremely affordable since we subsidize 3/4ths of the cost for the nursery. If you compare, you will see that the Eureka advertiser gets much more for the advertising cost.
Q. ÒHow do I get a color ad in a Eureka Reference Guide? I don't know anything about layout and design.Ó
A. We will design for you a beautiful, full-color ad displaying your feature cultivar. We'll use your photos or slides plus the marketing slogan and garden features you identify on your Nursery Ordering Information Form. Remember, you will feature a cultivar which you have in large supply. Most nurseries send us several photos to choose from. Our editorial policy is for you to show a lot of plant with a large photo and to say very few words. If you request too many words for your half-page display ad, we will edit the number of words or ask you to increase the size of the ad. When you upgrade from the basic 1/2 page to a full page, you may also feature a photo of your garden or additional plant for sale. Our photo policy emphasizes large color photography with a maximum of one photo per half page.
Q. ÒHow do I know which cultivars to list and pricing?Ó
A. Those are questions that you must determine based on your garden inventory and sales strategy. We suggest that you list only those plants for which you have a large supply. Some growers feature a few plants as loss leaders to encourage the collector to place an order and then choose other plants to purchase at the same time as they meet your Minimum Order requirements. Of course you can use back volumes of Eureka Reference Guides to help you see and track plant sales and trends each year.

Computer Data Cultivar Entry Instructions
Steps for getting your cultivar listings from your database, to your word processing program, to an email program and to us
Use the Eureka Daylily Dictionary to confirm cultivar spellings.
¥ In your database or spreadsheet program, prepare your cultivar listing with the cultivar names, sales codes, and prices. Once you've created these three fields of information, you may either "Save As" or "Export As" your plant listings into a comma delimited .TXT file to be opened in your word processing program. Or, you may create a new file in your word processing program with a line for each cultivar including three fields of information separated (delimited) by commas. Your three fields of data will NOT line up.
- Cultivar Name. Field #1: Use the registered cultivar name exactly as it appears in Registration Checklist. Any cultivar which does not match the Checklist spelling or is not registered is deleted..
- Sales Code. Field #2: use this field to explain how you will be delivering this plant. Leave this field blank if you do not use sales codes but include the extra comma. You may use the following Sales Codes for Daylilies:
M - Multiple-fan price; D - Double fan; S - Single fan; L - Very Limited supply; F - Fall delivery; or a - b for your special sales codes.
- Cultivar Price. Field #3: Indicate the price of each cultivar without a "$". If you're using a word processing program for your data, after this field, press enter or return. Example of how data should appear when emailed with a single sales code: Mountain Magic,F,22. Example of how data should appear when emailed with multiple sales codes: Mountain Magic,LFD,22. Example of how data should appear when emailed with no single sales code: Mountain Magic,,22.
¥ In your word processing program, either open your previously created .TXT database file or create a new .TXT file in your word processor program where you will place commas between the three fields of information, i.e. Plant Name,F,15
¥ Select the text for all the listings
¥ Copy the text into your computer RAM memory (usually under an Edit menu bar and then File/Copy)
¥ In your Internet browser mail program, address an email to us at the following: bloom@GardenEureka.com. In the ÒsubjectÓ field, type ÒNursery Listing for (Your Garden Name)Ó. In the body of the email, type your name, garden name and the number of listings to follow. Then place the curser at the end of your email and paste your listings into the email. If you can't see your listings in your email below your identification information, then I won't be able to see them either or use them. Paste your listings into the email and do not attach. Also, send a printout of your listings along with your other application materials. We will reply back with an analysis as to how your listings loaded into the Eureka database.
